Stabilizing Sand

We carry a wide range of Stabilizing Sand and Polymeric Stabilizing Sand

Stabilizing Sand

Envirobond manufactures EnviroSTONE Stabilized Crushed Stone for Flagstone and Path applications as well as EnviroSAND for use with paving stone. Together these products control erosion, are flexible, self healing, re-Usable and reduce maintenance. Stabilizing Sand is great at inhibiting week growth and works in all climates. Enviro-mentally friendly utilizing organically derived binders.

EnviroSAND

ENVIROBOND STABILIZED JOINT SAND combines a blend of high grade angular joint sand with an ORGANIC binder for joint lock-up in segmental pavement systems.

eg. -Interlocking stone or natural cobble stone

When activated by water, ENVIROBOND STABILIZED JOINT SAND forms an adhesive gel bonding sand particles together

Covers 90-100 square feet on tight joint pavers and 60-80 square feet on tumbled pavers. Allow 24 hours to set and in dry conditions.

EnviroSTONE

If you are looking for a solution to the constant wash-out of your flagstone joint filler. If you are tired of the cracking of traditional concrete jointing systems after freeze thaw and regular shifting. Envirobond is the "All Natural" Solution.

Because this organically derived binder is non-toxic you can feel free to create durable erosion resistant walks and patios near lakes, rivers and wilderness areas without fear of polluting the water or harming any wildlife. Plant roots will receive water through this surface (as it is water permeable) and plant growth is inhibited due to its self-healing nature preventing soil from accumulating in cracks where plants establish their root. Allow 24 hours to set and in dry conditions.

Polymeric Sand

King Permasand Stabilizing Sand

A quick setting polymer modified sand designed for filling joints of interlock pavers and slabs. Starts bonding when sprayed with a fine mist of water. Will work at above freezing temperatures (0oC  or 32oF). It can be installed if rain is forecasted for 3 hours after installation. Resistant to erosion, weeds and insects. Unique particle size and colours (Sand Beige and Grey)

Excellent for use around pools, patios, pedestrian walks, driveways or areas of water run-off.

NOTE: Ensure  the sand is properly swept into the joints prior to misting.  Once the sand sets ... it is very difficult to remove. Do not apply to damp or wet stone. It will harden immediately!

King Permasand Coverage Guide - soak well with a fine misty spray to avoid movement of the sand

Width of joints Depth of joints Coverage per bag (approximate)
3/16" 2 3/8" 42 square feet
3/16" 3 1/8" 33.6 square feet
1/8" 2 3/8" 63 square feet
5/16" 2 3/8" 21 square feet
1/16" 2 3/8" 84 square feet

Stabilizing Sand versus Polymeric Sand

It has been proven in the industry that a stable jointing sand is needed..... The following is an explanation of the differences between "Stabilizing Sand" and "Polymeric Sand".

Polymeric sets up quite hard when water is applied (once and only once) Be sure that it is swept into the joints properly.

· Once set up, Polymeric sand stays in one state- converting a segmental system to a monolithic one.
· Polymeric sand will harden and is difficult, almost impossible to remove.

Installation notes for Polymeric Sand:
An important factor in the final outcome of the installation is how the sand is put in. The surface must be completely dry before applying Polymeric Sand. When applying the sand, be sure that all the joints are filled and that there is no sand remaining on the surface. (Any sand remaining on the surface will stick permanently to the surface ).

Polymeric Sand slows joint erossion. Is available in two colours (beige or grey). Extremely durable. Mitigates weed growth in joints. Reduces ant infestation and is easy to apply.

Envirobond Stabilizing Sand is re-usable

· Envirobond allows for flexibility in the joints as it molds itself to the movement of the joint.
· Allows for a very user-friendly installation (material left on surface of paver prior to watering will harden, but can be watered and swept off surface to be used in joints)
· Re-usability of the sand allows for easy lift and re-lay of pavers.

Installation notes for Envirobond Stabilizing Sand:
If Envirobond sand is not swept entirely off of the paver surface prior to watering, it will harden on the paver, but can easily be removed. Simply saturate the pavers and sweep residue sand off of the surface of pavers.

Because it is self-healing Envirobond remains flexible in the joints as Polymeric turns a segmental system closer to a monolithic one.

NOTE: Polymeric and Stabilizing sand although having different properties, and having slightly different application values are meant to be used to help control joint erosion. Neither is a cement product and therefore need proper maintenance and may need to be re-applied every few years to top up any joint erosion that may occur over time.
